South Korean actor Lee Byung Hun has been very busy lately. Since he’s got projects lined up one after another. He recently finished, Kim Ji Woon’s “The Good, The Bad and The Weird” (a movie preview for this film can be found on the right column of this page), Tran Ahn Hung’s “I Come With The Rain” with Josh Hartnett and Takuya Kimura, and he also did a cameo for the Japanese film “Hero the movie”. Currently, he is currently filming his latest movie, Paramount’s “G.I. Joe” in which he stars as Snake Eyes’ nemesis Storm Shadow.
Now there is news that he will be co-producing and starring in what is reportedly the the most expensive korean drama series to date.
Lee, who stars in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming “G.I. Joe,” has pacted with Taewon Entertainment and KangJeGyu Film to produce blockbuster TV series “IRIS.”
Developed by “Taegukgi” director Kang Je-gyu, the $22 million skein is co-scripted by writers at KangJeGyu Film and A-Story.
Helmed by TV producer Lee Hyung-min (”Sorry, I Love You”), the series will be shot this year in the U.S., Russia, Japan and China. The spy actioner features four main characters, but the plot has not been divulged.
“IRIS” has been set up without a Korean broadcaster, and producers are expected to play nets off each other for the property. Sources at Taewon also report strong interest from Japanese TV channels due to Lee’s attachment.
When this will push through, this will definitely be Lee’s comeback project on the small screen, His last TV series was “All In” which was 5 years ago. I will definitely keep my eyes open for news on this project as they slowly divulge information about the plot and his co-stars.
