Sweet Valley High

Were you one of those that read the Sweet Valley High novels?

I grew up reading those novels — as well as the Sweet Valley Twins then Sweet Valley University novels. Now, it seems like they are old friends.  Old friends I spent my early childhood that I don’t get to see much nowadays.

Then I found out that the novels are being revamped so it felt like…WTF?!  They say that the novels are rewritten to make it more contemporary. Don’t expect me to be one of those people buying the novels. For me they were fine the way they were.

For those who are interested, Below are some of the changes made:

  • The twins, Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield, are now a “perfect size 4
  • Instead of writing for the school paper, Elizabeth is now blogging.
  • There are a lot of brand names mentioned when the girls’ clothes are mentioned
  • Bruce Patman’s car is not a Porsche but a Cadillac instead.
  • The Dairi Burger has been changed to Casa del Sol (or something like that).

Since the novels are rewritten, it follows that new covers are created for the novels.

  • A bunch of people enjoyed the Josh Groban Tribute Songs I shared yesterday. I’m glad to see that. So I decided to put a widget on the right column of the main page so it will be accessible for everyone. Hope you continue enjoying Josh Groban Tribute Band’s music!
  • I was thinking of sharing updates during the production of G.I. Joe. So I looked and found out that they are shooting some scenes in Prague. But no photos during production. I will keep you updated on this once there are more info.
  • Went grocery shopping today — can’t believe I spent a lot though. Stuffs I bought should last a month since it cost so damn much. My fave food are included of course - pasta, SPAM, tuna, clam chowder, chips and chocolates. Is that a good diet or what?!
  • Been reading books but unfortunately its not any of my pending books. Just finished  The Devil Who Tamed Her by Johanna Lindsey and now staring to read The Wizard’s Daughter by Catherine Coulter. Thought I was over my romance novel phase but apparently I still need the occassional fix.

Brida by Paulo CoelhoI saw this couple of days ago when I accompanied a friend at the bookstore. I have expressed that I’m a fan of Paulo Coelho so naturally, I was excited to see a new book out, Brida. It was just released last March 3rd according to Coelho’s blog. (Thanks Aart!)

I was sorely tempted to buy it since it just seems so apt to what I’m going through these days.

Coelho has a way of touching a chord in a person’s spirituality and humanity. Then letting it resonate towards your life and make you think long and hard of your own actions. That’s why I like his novels so much. There’s so much to discover and learn. If you are unfamiliar with his novels, the book The Alchemist is a good place to start.

I might succumb and just buy Brida the next time I go to my fave bookstore. Anyway, I haven’t used the gift certificate that was given to me for Christmas yet. Using it for Coelho’s book is a good way to spend it.

Procrastination is such a troublemaker. I have 2 books that I have started reading and haven’t gotten around to finishing yet and a third book I borrowed and haven’t opened yet. These books are:

My books
  1. The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin S. Sharma. (I have to get past the first chapter.)
  2. Wicked by Gregory Maguire. (The last time I picked up this book was last October. The stewardess on the flight home even commented on it.)
  3. Like the Flowing River by Paulo Coelho. (I have all of Paulo Coelho’s books and I love every single one of them. )

Now I have gotten my hands on another book, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Our local bookstore has an on-going sale that I can’t pass up so now I got saddled with another book. But I’m happy since I got the book at 20% off.  I love it when my favorite stores have a good sale.  About the book, My friends are raving about The Secret and kept on bugging me to read it. I would’ve saved my money if one of them lent their copy to me.  But they are not yet done with it, so I don’t know how they could recommend a book that they haven’t finished yet. So now I ended up having to see it for myself with my own money. One of these days I’ll post my thoughts on the book once I get around to reading it.

Now, ADD that book to my list that I need to read AND finish eventually.  Something always comes up.  I have to get around finishing my book one on the list so that I can eventually scratch this entire list out.

P.S. The books are very interesting and have great reviews, dont get me wrong. Its just that I don’t get to find the time to just sit down and read it.
