Movies

Here’s a clip of Jonathan Rhys Myers and Freddie Highmore from the movie August Rush. It is the first time the two met in the movie. If you have seen it, you know the significance of this scene. ;)

Just want to share a fan made clip which features the Jonathan Rhys Myers song “Something Inside” from the August Rush soundtrack. It also shows stills from the movie. Enjoy! :)

Iron Man Poster

“Iron Man” was pure gold at the box office. The Marvel Comics adaptation, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the guy in the metal suit, hauled in $100.7 million during its opening weekend and $104.2 million since debuting Thursday night, the second-best premiere ever for a nonsequel, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The film also scored overseas with $96.7 million in 57 countries where it began opening Wednesday, putting its worldwide total at $201 million.

It’s no wonder the movie struck gold because it is just that fabulous (read my previous post). Iron Man is also Marvel Studios first foray into financing their own films. The movie is so successful  since it’s opening that Marvel is already planning a sequel set for a April 30, 2010 release. Talk about fast.

I’m so happy that there will be a sequel coming. The movie was just that good. I can’t wait to see Robert Downey Jr don that metal suit again. Wonder how they will spin the story? Just have to wait and see.

Marvel turns ‘Iron Man’ into Gold

‘Iron Man 2′ set for summer 2010

Iron Man

I just watched the movie IronMan…one word: WoW!

I have been waiting for this movie since February. And I was completely blown away. I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. It is as amazing as the trailers made it out to be. :D There was a lot of explosives, aerial dogfights, flying mishaps and more! You got to check it out. I have learned to be rather picky with the superhero movies I watch since there are those that are not worth bothering with (i.e. Superman with Brandon Routh, Incredible Hulk and others) while there are those that I absolutely loved with Iron Man being one on the top of my list.

Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark

A great reason why the movie is so entertaining for me is because Robert Downey Jr is cast as the playboy/billionaire and gadget whiz Tony Stark. He brought a great dose of personality to the role. Downey effectively portrayed the different facets of the character - morose, troubled, defiance - plus he was funny when he needed to be. I absolutely enjoyed the press conference at the end of the film. Must see. :)) I know that the movie wouldn’t be as engaging if the lead role was given to another actor.

Also, Most of the supporting cast was great. I actually like Terrence Howard character which acts as Stark’s antithesis, meanwhile Jeff Bridges was almost unrecognizable on this film by sporting a bald head and beard to portray the co-owner of Stark Industries. But I found Gwyneth Paltrow pretty but a little annoying as Stark’s assistant. Overall, the movie is worth the money and time spent.

If you want to see the trailer, you can check out an Iron Man preview on the Videos to Share widget on the right column of the screen. Just browse through the widget until you find it. ;)

But preferably, visit your nearest movie theatres and see the movie for yourself! ^^ When you watch the movie, wait until after the credits - there is supposedly something there. I will watch the movie again (just because I want to) and make a mental note to NOT leave until after the credits.

Here’s a clip of the Academy Award nominated song “Raise It Up” from the movie, August Rush.

This is my favorite song in the movie, August Rush, which coincidentally was sung by Jonathan Rhys Myers. Just want to share. ;)

Here is a new poster from the movie, Wanted. It obviously stars Angelina Jolie. ;) The other cast includes James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Terence Stamp.

August RushHave any of you seen August Rush?

I just saw the movie without much expectation from it. Except that I will be seeing Jonathan Rhys Myers in it. I was drawn to the movie out of a fangirl admiration for the cute Jonathan Rhys Myers. :D

I’m glad I did though. Not solely because of Rhys Myers but because the movie is absolutely endearing and the music is absolutely beautiful.

In summary, the movie is a musical journey of a young orphan (Freddie Highmore) to find his parents. Amidst his search, at the same time it is also a search of a young couple in finding their heart’s greatest yearning and how these three characters are brought together by music.

I only just realized that one of the songs in this movie was performed at the recent Academy Awardsm which was won by one of my favorite songs “Falling Slowly” from the movie, Once, which I have yet to see. Anyway, the song that was nominated from this movie is the song “Raise It Up”. It’s a beautiful song about courage and not giving up.

Plus, Jonathan Rhys Myers’ character is a lead singer from a rock bank so he sang 3 of the songs in the film. He’s absolutely gorgeous and talented. I will look for a clip and will post it later on.

My Sassy Girl

My Sassy Girl (2001) is the first South Korean film I watched and it got me hooked. It is so laugh-out-loud funny and endearing at the same time. The lead girl, played by Jun Ji Hyun (or Gianna Jun) is so flat-out crazy while the poor lead guy, played by Cha Tae Hyun, is endearing clueless and sweet. Plus, it has the most heart-wrenching songs like this one. It also spawned the prequel, Windstruck. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a funny and sweet romcom movie

Also, I knew for several months now that Hollywood is planning to remake this classic South Korean film. I’m not putting much stock on the Hollywood version since Hollywood remakes of Asian films always ends up not up to par compared to the original (i.e. Lake House with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock vs. the original Il Mare with Lee Jung Jae and Jun Ji Hyun, then horror flicks The Ring, The Grudge etc.)

Now a trailer of the Hollywood My Sassy Girl can be found online. The movie stars Elisha Cuthbert and Jesse Bradford. I also posted a trailer of the original South Korean movie. You will notice a lot of similar scenes. I’m not sold on the Hollywood version but here’s the two videos for your viewing pleasure.

I have seen the movie “Dan In Real Life” with Steve Carell, Juliette Binoche and Dane Cook. At first I was hesitant to watch this film since I am not necessarily a Steve Carell fan. I liked the plot of the film and wanted to see how it would turn out.  Also I felt the need to watch a comedy, so I opted for this.

Carell and Binoche

Believe it or not, I absolutely loved this movie. It’s a movie that is full of heart. It mostly dealt with Dan’s (Carell) relationship with his rebellious daughters, the conflict brought by the woman of his dreams(Binoche), with his brother (Cook) and his relatioinship with his other family members. It has the right dose of comedic moments and at the same time tug at your heart-strings. I ask you to check it out if you are in the need to just relax and be entertained by a family movie.

Also, watch out – you might fall inlove with his family as well. They are absolutely endearing.

Carell
Cute scene.

Part of the reason why this movie works is the wonderful soundtrack. Almost all of the songs in the album are from the norwegian singer, Sondre Lerche. You can check his MySpace and listen to some songs from the soundtrack as well. Enjoy!

P.S. There’s a song by Dane Cook and Norbert Leo Butz (who both played Carell’s brothers in the film) that you have to check out. It’s HI LA RIO US! Can’t give away what its about but its really funny. =)
