Penelope Who?

I saw the trailer for this movie last week. I found it cute and refreshing. I actually hesitated in posting another topic about a movie but I really like it — so what. It’s one of those movies that just catches your attention even without meaning to — or maybe because James McAvoy is in it?

It’s still worth checking out though. The movie stars Christina Ricci, James McAvoy, Catherine O’Hara and Reese Witherspoon.

In the movie, Christina Ricci plays the title character, Penelope, who through no fault of her own inherited the family’s curse. Penelope was born to a wealthy family who hid her away from the world in the hopes of protecting her from life’s harsh realities.  But like how fairy tales go, in order for the curse to be lifted she must find “true love”. Thus suitors come around professing their love but is proven to be only after her money when they got scared off once they discover her secret.  Poor girl. But things turn around when she breaks away and finds her true self.

      James McAvoy plays up his charms.

I’m a sucker for romance, fairy tale-esque stories and handsome leading men. I’m so interested in this movie. For those that have seen it, let me know what you think.
